RiSKWa Joint Research Projects

Within the BMBF funding measure "Risk Management of Emerging Compounds and Pathogens in the Water Cycle (RiSKWa)" selected joint research projects related to “Risk characterisation and management“, “Technologies for emission and immission management” and “Measures for communication and education” were funded.

The RiSKWa Handbook of good Practice provides an overview on the results of the funding measure.

The funding measure “Risk Management of Emerging Compounds and Pathogens in the Water Cycle (RiSKWa)” aimed to develop an innovative and dynamic risk management system accompanied by on site demonstrations.
The 12 joint research projects and the scientific support of “RiSKWa” have been working on the identification of risks as well as the development of technologies and strategies to avoid or reduce the appearance of Emerging Compounds and Pathogens in the Water Cycle. Training and communication measures were elaborated in order to establish an effective risk management and a preventive environmental and health protection.

The following 12 joint research projects were funded within RiSKWa:

  • ANTI-Resist: Analysis of Antibiotics and Antibiotic Resistances in the Urban Waste Water - Development of Suitable Strategies and an Early Warning and Monitoring System - the Example of the City of Dresden
  • ASKURIS: Anthropogenic Trace Organic Compounds and Pathogens in the Urban Water Cycle: Assessment, Barriers and Risk Communication
  • PRiMaT: Preventive Risk Management in Drinking Water Supply
  • RiMaTH: Risk Management of Drinking Water in Building Installations - Fast Detection Methods for Bacterial Contaminants and Monitoring of Decontamination Measures
  • RiskAGuA: Risks Posed by Wastewater from Intensive Animal Farming for Ground and Surface Water in Agricultural Areas
  • RISK-IDENT: Assessment of Previously Unknown Anthropogenic Trace Contaminants and Action Strategies  for Risk Management in Aquatic Systems
  • SAUBER+: Innovative Concepts and Technologies for the Separate Treatment of Wastewater from Health Care Facilities
  • SchussenAktivplus: Reduction of Micropollutants and Potentially Pathogenic Bacteria for Further Water Quality Improvement of River Schussen, a Tributary of Lake Constance
  • Safe Ruhr: Bathing Water and Drinking Water for the Ruhr Area
  • TOX-BOX: Hazard-Based Risk Management of Anthropogenic Trace Substances for Protection of the Drinking Water Supply
  • TransRisk: Characterisation, Communication and Minimization of risks Associated with the Occurance of Emerging Contaminants and Pathogens in the Urban Water Cycle
